If you use your machine on a daily basis, charge the batteries as soon as you have finished using it for the day. It is recommended that you charge the batteries for at least 8 hours preferably more.
If you use your machine infrequently (once a week or less), you should charge the batteries at least once per week for 12 – 14 hours before use.
If your scooter has not been used for a long time, and the batteries have not been charged during this time, the batteries may need replacing. If you think this may be the case please contact us and one of our engineers will be available to give you more advice.
The most common problems associated with powerchairs/scooters are due to insufficient or incorrect charging.
Batteries should not be left uncharged for more than 4 weeks.
New batteries should always be fully charged before first use.
To avoid damaging the batteries
Never leave the charger plugged into the machine if the charger is switched off.
Never allow them to be fully discharged.
Never short out the terminals.
Topping up the charge for short periods is NOT recommended.
Do not drive through large puddles.
How far you can travel on one full charge will depend on many factors, such as,
If your machine beeps when you turn it on and/or it won’t move, check that the scooter is in gear, not in freewheel mode. Turn the machine off and look towards the back of the machine. There is usually a lever (two for a powerchair) that puts it in freewheel mode. If you can't see the lever, the manual will advise. After putting it in gear, turn your machine on again.
If your machine flashes when you switch it on and won’t move it is important to count how many times it flashes. There will be a certain number of flashes and then a pause - usually no more than 10 flashes. Each number refers to a different fault and it will help our engineers diagnose the possible problem. Contact us for advice once you have this flash code.
Consult your manual to see if there is a specific troubleshooting guide for your machine. You can also try the following:
If these steps don't help, charge the battery overnight and try the machine again.
If the problem persists contact us for further advice.
Your machine may have a sleep or power-saving mode to preserve the battery life.
